Days 1 & 2 (April 2-3) - Ft. Pierce, FL

finally getting a chance to post.
I had a wonderful visit with my dad to start my voyage. I spent 3/31 - 4/2 with him, enjoying much conversation and a fun round of golf with him and a friend of his. really a great time, thanks dad!
I left from ft. myers on 4/2 with the rather lofty and in hindsight, unrealistic plan of getting across the state to my best friend dave's place (about 135 miles...) I hadn't ridden that far since ironman training last fall. what sealed my fate was forgetting my fluids/nutrition bottles at dad's, so improvising on limited availability led to an unpleasant bonk, where the body simply runs out gas and brings you to a stop. 15+ headwinds for 55 miles didn't help much either !! I had already setup plan b with Dave to sag me in, so I was in good hands. been having a great time visitng with Dave and his bride, tiff, and his boys, friends paul, elizabeth, and dave.

decided to push back departure to 4/5. joining the others to go see the space shuttle Discovery launch up close, so shlepping bike and gear and leaving from canaveral. from there, on to Orlando to see my sister phyllis and her fam. more tomorrow.... ciao
